Eloise: Poorhouse & Asylum
Local historian Joseph Oldenburg will give a talk about the history of the Eloise Poorhouse and Asylum. He will explain how it began as the Wayne County Poorhouse and how it was moved due to overcrowding to modern day Westland. Mr. Oldenburg will discuss what led to the institution’s closure in 1982. We will also learn how Eloise got its name (hint: it had something to do with the mail.)
